Fun Diving Program Guide
The following information explains how the Dive Story Moalboal Fun Diving Program operates and provides important information for customers.
Please read this information carefully before making a reservation.
Basic Diving Knowledge and Terminology
We do not provide explanations or answers to questions regarding basic diving terminology or general scuba diving knowledge.
For example:
For basic questions like these, please search for the information yourself, ask ChatGPT, or contact the instructor who provided your diving training.
Please. Seriously.
Checking Availability
Dive Story operates as a dive shop, rather than a typical dive resort that accepts reservations based on a limited number of hotel rooms.
Therefore, there is generally no need to ask simply:
“Are you available?”
Yes, we are available!
We maintain sufficient equipment, tanks, boats, and Divemasters to operate even for groups of approximately 100 people.
If you have many questions or need to confirm many specific details, please confirm your reservation first.
If your schedule is not yet fixed and you simply mean:
“If I have some free time, I will go diving.”
then there is no need for a separate consultation.
Simply visit our shop and make a reservation when your schedule allows.
Reservations and Same-Day Bookings
What Counts as a Reservation?
A reservation is considered confirmed only after the required deposit has been transferred.
A conversation or consultation through messages does not constitute a confirmed reservation and does not guarantee the requested schedule or service.
Information discussed during the consultation before the reservation is confirmed is also not guaranteed.
Therefore, if you need to discuss a detailed schedule or have special requests, please confirm your reservation first.
Same-Day Walk-in Customers
If you visit the shop without a reservation on the day you wish to dive, please consult with our shop staff regarding available options.

However, the discount does not apply if you bring only some of your equipment and rent even one item from the shop.
For example, if you bring most of your equipment but rent boots from us, the discount does not apply.
To receive the discount, please bring your complete equipment set.
Diving Schedule and Duration
Shore Diving
A shore dive generally takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes in total.
Shore dives can generally be scheduled at the time you prefer.
Boat Diving
A boat dive generally takes approximately 2 hours in total.
Actual underwater time is normally around 40–50 minutes.
However, the actual dive time may be shorter or longer depending on:
Morning Boat Diving
Morning boat diving is normally operated as two consecutive boat dives.
If you are joining the morning boat dives, please arrive at the shop by 8:00 AM.
After completing two morning boat dives, the boat normally returns to the shop at approximately 12:30 PM.
If You Want to Do Only One Boat Dive
If you book only one boat dive, or only participate in the second morning dive, you may need to wait on the boat during the time of the dive you are not participating in.
However, if you let us know in advance after making your reservation:
“I only want to do one boat dive and then return to the shop.”
we will try to take this into account when arranging the boat schedule.
Boat diving is not necessarily limited to two consecutive dives in every situation.
Afternoon Boat Diving
Afternoon boat diving is available when there are at least four people booked.
Afternoon boat diving is also generally conducted as two consecutive dives.
If there are not enough people for a boat departure, we may instead travel by tricycle or other local transportation, enter from the beach, and conduct the dive as a shore dive.
If you participate in only one afternoon boat dive, you may also need to wait on the boat during the remaining dive time.
Groups of Four or More
If four or more people make a reservation together, we may be able to arrange the diving schedule around your preferred time, regardless of the general schedule described above.
We will accommodate your preferred schedule whenever reasonably possible.
Important Information About Timing
Scuba diving is affected by many variables, including:
Therefore, there may be situations where it is difficult to guarantee an exact schedule.
Please allow sufficient flexibility before and after your dives when planning other activities or transportation.
Diving Procedures and Guides
Guide Ratio
The standard guide ratio is 4 divers to 1 guide (4:1).
Depending on the circumstances at the dive site, the ratio may be increased to a maximum of 8 divers to 1 guide (8:1).
Private Guide
If you require a private guide, please request one in advance after making your reservation.
If you request a private guide on the morning of the dive, it may be difficult for us to arrange one.
Language
Our Filipino dive guides generally conduct briefings and guiding in English.
Towels and Drinking Water
Drinking water is available on the boat.
Approximately 1–2 towels per group are provided.
If you need warm water or a simple snack, please let us know before the dive, and we will prepare it when possible.
Towels After Showering
Personal towels for use after showering are not provided.
If you need a towel after your shower, please bring your own towel from your accommodation.
Dive Sites and Depth
Basic information about our dive sites can be found on our website.
You can also install the SSI app to view information about various dive sites in the Moalboal area.
Most of the dive sites in Moalboal feature vertical wall formations, with depths of approximately 45–65 meters below the wall.
Maximum Depth
The maximum depth for fun diving is limited to the depth permitted by your certification.
For example, an Open Water Diver should generally remain shallower than 20 meters and dive within the depth limits covered by their training and certification.
If you hold a certification that allows you to dive to 40 meters, you may dive with your buddy within the limits of your certification, experience, and personal ability.
Divemasters generally guide divers along an appropriate route and at an appropriate depth.
Please always dive safely within the limits of your certification, experience, and actual ability.
Choosing the Dive Site
Dive sites are generally decided the evening before the dive or on the morning of the dive.
If there is a particular dive site you would especially like to visit, please let us know in advance after making your reservation.
If there are no specific requests, we generally give priority to the preferences of customers who made their reservations first.
GoPro Filming and Rental
GoPro Filming by the Guide
GoPro filming is not a free service.
Our guides may take a GoPro with them while diving, but this does not mean that they are required to film customers.
Therefore, we cannot guarantee:
-
Whether you will be filmed
-
How much footage will be taken
-
The quality of the footage
-
The specific subjects or moments captured
If you would like to receive the recorded files, please ask our staff after the dive.
Our staff will explain the procedure for obtaining the files.
We do not provide individual file-transfer services to each customer.
To date, we have not had a case where absolutely no footage was taken.
If You Definitely Want to Be Filmed
If having video footage is important to you, please bring your own GoPro and give it to the guide before the dive.
If you want a larger amount of footage or more dedicated filming, we recommend using a private guide.
GoPro Rental
Dive Story does not directly provide GoPro rental services.
However, if necessary, we can provide information about rental companies located near the shop.
Other Facilities and General Information
Luggage Storage
You may leave your luggage at the shop while using our services.
However, we are not responsible for loss or damage.
If you have valuables, please keep them separate and inform the manager or staff.
CCTV cameras are installed inside the shop, so footage can be checked when necessary.
Tips
Tips are not mandatory.
You do not have to leave a tip.
However, if you would like to leave a tip, please do not give it directly to an individual Divemaster.
Instead, please place it in the shop's tip box.
Individual tips may cause misunderstandings or disputes between staff members.
Electricity and Water
In the Philippines, electricity and water supplies may not always be as stable as they are in some other countries.
Therefore, there may be occasions when the water supply is not operating normally at the time you want to shower after diving.
We appreciate your understanding regarding the local environment and conditions.
Pick-up Service
We do not provide pick-up service from accommodations within Moalboal to Dive Story.
However, transportation from Cebu to Moalboal can be arranged.
Please refer to the price table on our website for the current price.
What to Bring
You can come with very little and still enjoy diving without major problems.
However, the following items may be useful:
A simple shower is available, but hot water and towels for showering are not provided.
When a Fun Diver and a Discover Scuba Diver Are in the Same Group
If your group includes both a certified fun diver and a Discover Scuba/experience diver, the fun diver must choose one of the following options.
Join the Fun Diving Group
If you participate as part of the regular fun diving group, you cannot dive together with the experience diver.
The fun diver will follow the normal fun diving schedule.
Dive Together with the Experience Diver
If you want to dive together with the experience diver, you will follow the experience-dive guide without a separate fun diving guide.
In this case, the guide must focus primarily on the safety and progress of the experience diver.
Therefore, the guide will not be able to provide individual attention to the certified fun diver.
Natural Environment and Marine Life
Sardines and Turtles
Sardines and turtles can be observed during shore dives.
The area directly in front of Dive Story is a well-known sardine and turtle dive site.
However, turtle sightings cannot be guaranteed 100%.
If you go out by boat, there are no dive sites where you can see the sardines and turtles from our shore site.
Sea Conditions
The following natural conditions cannot be controlled by the dive shop:
Please understand that these conditions are part of the natural environment and are beyond our control.
Cancellation and Refunds Due to Natural Disasters
If diving in Moalboal becomes impossible due to a typhoon or other natural disaster, based on an official announcement or applicable guidance from the Philippine government, we will provide a full refund.
For other cancellation and refund situations, please refer to our separate reservation and refund policy.
Late Arrival
A small delay may be accommodated depending on the circumstances.
However, if you arrive too late, your reservation may be cancelled.
Because the guide has already prepared and waited for you, a refund for the missed dive may not be possible.
Depending on the situation, it may be possible to arrange the dive during a later time slot.
However, if it is treated as a new schedule, a new fee may apply.
Cancelling a Dive for Personal Reasons
No refund will be provided if you decide not to dive for personal reasons such as:
Best Time for Diving
The sardines and turtles directly in front of Dive Story can generally be observed during the daytime, both in the morning and afternoon.
There is no particular time of day that can be guaranteed to be better.
Please choose the time that best fits your travel schedule.
Generally, there are more divers in the morning and fewer people in the afternoon.
Therefore, if you prefer a quieter diving experience, you may prefer afternoon diving.
If You Have Not Dived for a Long Time or Are Not Confident in Your Skills
If you are able to dive according to what you learned during your certification training, there should generally be no major problem enjoying fun diving in Moalboal.
Compared with some other destinations, Moalboal provides a relatively comfortable environment for diving.
However, if:
-
You feel that you were not properly trained
-
It has been a long time since your last dive
-
You cannot remember your diving skills
-
You are not confident in your abilities
we cannot provide separate training or refresher instruction during a normal fun dive.
Regular fun diving is conducted as a group activity, generally with approximately 4–5 divers per guide.
Depending on the circumstances, this may increase to a maximum of 8 divers per guide.
A Divemaster or instructor cannot focus exclusively on one or two individual divers during a regular fun dive, and training or refresher instruction is not provided during normal fun diving.
Therefore, questions such as:
“I last dived several years ago. Do I need to take a refresher course?”
are ultimately something you should “judge” based on your own condition, experience, and ability.
If you decide that additional training is necessary, please consider one of the following:
-
Retaking an Open Water course
-
Taking a refresher course
-
Reserving a private guide in advance
If you received your training at Dive Story and have difficulty participating in fun diving in Moalboal, we will do our best to assist you within reasonable limits.
However, to date, we have not had a case where a properly trained Dive Story customer was unable to participate in normal Moalboal fun diving.
A Divemaster Is Not a Safety Attendant
A Divemaster's role is to guide the dive and manage the group.
A Divemaster is not a safety attendant who assumes responsibility for every action and every aspect of an individual diver's safety.
Please understand that the individual diver retains the basic responsibility for problems that occur during the dive.
Therefore, you must personally “judge” and check the following:
Even when using rental equipment, you must personally inspect your equipment before boarding the boat and before entering the water.
If you find a problem, you must make sure that it is addressed before diving.
Please follow the basic equipment checks and safety procedures you learned during your Open Water course.
If you do not want to personally check your equipment or make decisions about your own diving, a Discover Scuba/experience diving program may be more suitable than regular fun diving.
Rental BCD and Weights
Weights cannot be placed inside the weight pockets of our rental BCDs.
You must use a weight belt.
This is because placing weights inside the pockets of rental BCDs frequently causes the pockets to become damaged or torn.
If you do not want to use a weight belt, please bring your own BCD with an appropriate integrated weight system.
Also, all weights at our center are 3 lb weights.
If you require more precise weight adjustment, please compensate accordingly by using additional weights or bring your own appropriate personal weights.
Diving Inquiries for Other Areas
Dive Story is a dive shop located in Moalboal.
For information regarding diving availability, operations, schedules, or services in other areas, please contact a dive shop directly in that area.
Private and Special Services
Additional charges may apply if you require a personal schedule or special service.
For example:
“I absolutely must go to Pescador Island at a specific time.”
If you have a special request like this, you may need to arrange a private boat or other private service.
If you require a personal schedule or special service, you will be responsible for the cost of that service.
Questions About Information Already Provided on Our Website
If information has already been clearly stated on our website or in our official information, we generally do not provide additional answers to repeated confirmation questions.
For example, if the website clearly states the price and inclusions, questions such as:
“Is the information on your website correct?”
may receive a limited response if the same information is repeatedly being reconfirmed.
The information provided on our website is, in principle, applied as stated.
However, if you have a specific personal schedule, special request, or individual situation that differs from the standard arrangements, please explain your situation and the reason for your question.
If you tell us why you are asking and what your specific circumstances are, we can provide more accurate information and reduce the possibility of misunderstandings.
We do not want consultations to become uncomfortable or emotionally confrontational for either side.
Minors
If a minor participates in diving, parental or legal guardian consent is required.
The parent or guardian does not necessarily have to dive with the minor.
However, whenever possible, we recommend that the parent or guardian also participate in the dive.
If the parent or guardian does not dive, they must remain at the shop until the minor has completed the dive.
If the minor participates in a boat dive, the parent or guardian must accompany the minor on the boat.
If the parent or guardian does not dive and only accompanies the boat, the fee is PHP 500 per person.
Being a minor does not automatically mean that a separate personal supervision service will be provided.
If the minor requires additional individual supervision, we recommend that the parent or guardian dive together with them. If necessary, we also recommend hiring a private guide.
Health Conditions and Fitness to Dive
If you have a pre-existing medical condition, have undergone surgery, are pregnant, have a disability, or have any other health-related concern, we cannot make a medical determination about whether you are fit to scuba dive.
Please consult a doctor or qualified medical professional regarding whether you are medically fit to participate in scuba diving.
